2009 FIAT GRANDE PUNTO ABARTH EVO S2000

With this particular car, now fully restored, Kimi 'The Iceman' Räikkönen participated in his first World Championship Rally, the 2009 Neste Oil Rally Finland

The car belongs to Kimi Räikkönen's private collection. The car can be seen at Mobilia Rally Museum.

THE PROJECT

The most challenging part of this project, was re-creating the complex graphics, originally designed by Uffedesign. We were able to get some of the original design files from 2009, but unfortunately not all the graphics were present in that data. Also the scale of the design was missing.

To be able to reproduce all the graphics in correct scale, the car was measured with traditional methods and also 3D Scanning with a Smart Phone Lidar was used first time to capture 3D measurements of the car.

As seen in the project pictures below, the car was fully white before the wrapping started.

First we created the satin black parts by using wrapping cast vinyl. All the other graphics were then added on top of the satin black vinyl. Why? Because this was also the method originally used when the original livery was created back in 2009.

Our promise is, that the re-created livery matches the original as close as ever possible.

PROJECT PICTURES

The first phase in all projects is to create a drawing, where all the reproducible graphics are present in correct scale.

This screenshot was taken during the re-creation of the graphics by using CorelDRAW. Although it seems to fit to the screen quite well, this drawing is actually in 1:1 scale.

Does not look quite ready yet?

Many hours later, the drawing looks more ready. Pay attention to details, like the 2009 Neste Rally Finland scrutineering sticker we re-created.

This photograph was one of the reference photos used for re-creating the graphics.

The graphics present in the car were complex and hard to reproduce.

This is from where we started the wrapping.

Front bumber wrapping in progress.

Back view of the starting point.

Driver side door graphics installation. Satin black on bottom, glossy white on top of satin black and the door number on top of everything. Exatcly like in 2009.
